FAIT Program
Food allergy treatment, from research to real life
The Problem
Food allergies are a growing challenge for children and families in British Columbia (and beyond). Many children live with the daily reality of avoiding common allergens — such as peanut, milk, eggs, nuts, and more — because even tiny exposures can trigger severe, potentially life-threatening reactions.
Currently, the only reliable way to manage many food allergies is strict avoidance and carrying emergency medication (e.g. epinephrine), which places a heavy burden on families. This approach can limit a child’s participation in everyday life — eating at school, socializing, travelling, or attending events — and can cause ongoing anxiety, stress, social isolation, and reduced quality of life.
In short, there is a growing demand for safe and effective food allergy treatments that are evidence-based and easy to implement that can reduce risk, reduce fear, and restore a sense of normalcy for children with food allergies and their families. The FAIT Program aims to meet that demand by developing and delivering cutting-edge food allergy treatments to all Canadians who desire them.
